The weight of expectations on Bafana Bafana is heavily influenced by the progress made under the Belgian, Hugo Broos.

Bafana Bafana, who finished third in the last edition, will kick off their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) campaign with a clash against Angola on Monday evening in Marrakech, the fourth-largest city in Morocco.

With expectations raised, Bafana Bafana’s good progress over the past few years could stand them in good stead. They face Angola in Marrakech on Monday evening.

And they have the backing of captain Ronwen Williams, who is confident the boys can live up to expectations, especially after doing well in the 2024 tournament.

“Obviously, we know that the preparations have been very strange, with the Europe-based players only joining (the camp) a bit later. But once we were complete, you could see the mood was much better, training was much better, the team spirit, everything just got much better as everyone arrived in camp,” said Williams, who’s made 57 appearances at senior international level.

“The last few days have been good, training has been solid, and you can see that the boys know they are playing at the AFCON.

“You can see that the quality of training has improved as well. So overall, the last few days have been much better. We’ve looked good as a team, and we know how important it is to get the tournament off to a positive start. We can’t wait to get started, and we are looking forward to giving a good account of ourselves.”

The kick-off at the Grand Stade de Marrakech is at 19h00 South African time.
