Bafana Bafana winger Mohau Nkota could not have asked for a better start after scoring on his debut for Saudi Arabian team Al-Ettifaq.

Nkota, 20, has been with the Saudis for the past few weeks, after his transfer from Orlando Pirates, joining on a three-year deal.

“It’s a very good league, competitive, and I’m very happy to be here,” reflected Nkota post-match in the 2-1 home win over Al Kholood at the E’GO Stadium in Dammam on Thursday evening.

The Kimberley-born attacker hit the ground running in this match, scoring just seven minutes on the clock and later hitting the post, denying him a brace on debut. He was given a rating of 7.7/10, which was the highest of any player on the pitch.

“I have a very good group of people: my teammates and technical team. I’d like to thank them for the opportunity that they gave me. To the fans of Ettifaq, thank you very much for the welcome,” said Nkota, who further explained why he’s settled in so quickly.

He added, “You know, sometimes as a person, you need to make yourself happy wherever you go, join a new team, feel comfortable, and don’t be scared to be around the players. I mean, I came in during pre-season and showed them the kind of person I am, and they welcomed me well.”

Still in Saudi Arabia, another Bafana winger, Elias Mokwana, came off the bench to win a penalty for Al Hazem in their 1-1 draw against Damac.
