Interestingly, co-host Mexico will meet South Africa in the opening match of the FIFA 2026 World Cup.

This is the repeat of the 2010 World Cup opener, which ended 1-1 at the FNB Stadium.

For next year’s global showpiece, Mexico will host Bafana Bafana at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City on 11 June 2026.

Bafana Bafana will also meet South Korea in Group A, and the winner of the playoff between Denmark, North Macedonia, the Czech Republic, or Ireland.

The draw was conducted in Washington, DC, United States of America (USA), on Friday evening South African time.
