The Ghana High Commission in Pretoria has issued a caution to members of the public submitting consular applications in the Western Cape, warning that the now-defunct Honorary Consulate in Cape Town is no longer recognised by the governments of Ghana and South Africa. The advisory, released on 3 December 2025, comes after reports that applicants continue to approach the former consulate for visas and passports despite prior notices from the High Commission.

The former Honorary Consul, Reverend Twum-Darko, and his staff ceased to be recognised as accredited consular agents with effect from 29 September 2025. The High Commission emphasised that any consular submissions to the former office are invalid and advised the public to channel all applications through the designated official channels.

The High Commission has provided the following contact points for official applications: email headofmission@ghanahighcommission.co.za and telephone numbers +27 12 342 5847, 8, and 9. Applicants are urged to refrain from engaging with individuals claiming to be authorised representatives of the Embassy of Ghana in Pretoria.

In addition, the High Commission confirmed that measures are underway to urgently appoint a new Honorary Consul in Cape Town. The public is also encouraged to report any suspected fraudulent activity related to consular services to the High Commission directly.

The caution is intended to protect members of the public from potential fraud and ensure that consular applications, including passport and visa submissions, are processed through legitimate and officially recognised channels.

This warning underscores the importance of adhering to official communications from diplomatic missions, particularly in regions where former representatives may no longer be accredited. The Ghana High Commission in Pretoria has reaffirmed its commitment to providing secure and legitimate consular services to all Ghanaians and applicants residing in South Africa.
