Manchester City’s U16 coach, Kolo Touré, has been drafted into their first-team coaching structure for the FIFA Club World Cup.

Touré, 44, is expected to jet off to the United States with Pep Guardiola’s squad on Thursday.

City saw a triple exit from Pep Guardiola’s dugout with the conclusion of the 2024/25 season. Juanma Lillo, Inigo Dominguez, and Carlos Vicens all left the Etihad, and the latter has since joined Portuguese club Braga as head coach.

The former Ivory Coast captain, Touré, has been with City since July 2024. Prior to that, he managed Wigan Athletic, served as Brendan Rodgers’ assistant at Leicester City, worked under Marc Wilmots with the Ivory Coast national team, and was a technical assistant at Glasgow Celtic.

Interestingly, Kolo Touré’s younger brother Yaya, is not a big fan of Guardiola. When Yaya departed the Etihad in 2018, he went on to claim Guardiola “has a problem with African players” and described his relationship with the Spaniard as “complicated”.

He later apologized.
