Waterberg – A 32-year-old man is due to face the might of the law for attempted murder case after being told to pack and go by a girlfriend at Northam – Smash-Block section.

The girlfriend decided to go away for the whole night after an argument, said The Spokesperson for the Limpopo SAPS, Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba.

“Returning back to the house on the following day, she found the suspect waiting for her at the gate. When both were inside the house, the suspect quickly locked the burglar door, doused flammable liquid inside the house, consumed it, opened the gas cylinder valve and shouted that he wanted to die with her. Immediately when he grabbed the matches box, the girlfriend jumped on top of him, grabbed his hands and dragged him down on the floor. She snatched the match’s box and threw it out through the window and screamed for help. The neighbours rescued them,” she said.

“The Police were summoned, and a case of attempted murder was opened against the suspect,”

“The alleged suspect was identified, traced, and arrested at the same village. He is now admitted at a local hospital under police guard for attempted murder,” she said.

The court awaits the recovery of the accused to be fit to stand in the dock to face the law.

“The suspect is due to appear before Northam Magistrate’s Court to face an attempted murder charge,” Brig Mashaba concluded.
