Limpopo – An 18-year-old young man will be appearing in the Letsitele Magistrate’s Court tomorrow for allegedly raping his 9-year-old sister at Lwandlamuni village – Letsitele outside the Tzaneen town.

Limpopo police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba said the angry community members of Lwandlamuni village burst into the N’wa Mitwa police satellite pulling a young man and a little girl at about 08:00 in the morning to expedite arrest of the alleged perpetrator.

Brigadier Mashaba further said the irate community members informed the police that the young girl had disclosed to them that she had been sexually assaulted by her brother on the 8th of August 2025 at their family residence.

“During an interview with the police, the young girl revealed that her brother called her into the room and raped her. A case of rape has been registered at Letsitele Police Station and has been transferred to the Tzaneen Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit for further investigation,” she said.

“The intensive investigation led to the arrest of their 35-year-old mother on Saturday, 23 August 2025, for failure to report the crime and will join her son when they both appear in the Letsitele Magistrate’s Court tomorrow on Monday, 25 August 2025,” said Brig Mashaba.

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has applauded the community members of Lwandlamuni village for their courage in standing up for the victim and bringing both the child and the suspect to the police station.

“We commend the community for their swift action resulting in the matter being to the authorities. This demonstrates the important role that communities play in protecting our most vulnerable members, particularly women and children. We encourage all communities to continue speaking out against all forms of violence perpetrated against women and children. We also urge them to support survivors in their quest to seek justice,” said Lieutenant General Hadebe.
