Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana midfielder Themba Zwane has suffered a fresh injury setback.

‘Mshishi,’ as Zwane is affectionately known, has to contend with a thigh injury this time, on the back of an Achilles tendon injury that kept him out for the better part of last season.

Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has confirmed Zwane is likely to sit out two months. He went down with the injury during Sundowns’ 1-1 draw against Orlando Pirates in the MTN8 semi-finals first leg at Orlando Stadium on Saturday.

“Unfortunately, Themba will be out for, I believe, maybe two months, probably,” Cardoso told the media after the 2-0 win over Magesi FC in Polokwane, Limpopo, on Wednesday evening.

“It’s unfortunate, but he will come back stronger for sure, and we are expecting him to come as quickly as possible. Since the moment he got injured, the club and Themba made every effort to make that time as short as possible. Let’s hope we can make it as short as possible.”

The 36-year-old will miss Bafana Bafana’s FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Nigeria next month.

“All players and everyone who’s part of the family if they are not 100%, it is a big blow,” added Cardoso.
