Nigeria’s federal government has launched a new policy aimed at modernising agriculture and strengthening food security by building a robust, technology-driven agribusiness sector led by young people.

Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Senator Abubakar Kyari said the government is not only prioritising innovation in agriculture, but also ensuring that young people and women are at the heart of the transformation. This was reported by the Nigerian News Agency (NAN), a partner of TV BRICS.

Speaking at a high-level policy dialogue on youth and women in agribusiness in Abuja, Kyari explained that, to institutionalise the process, the federal government – through the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security – is rolling out the National Agricultural Technology and Innovation Policy. The initiative aims to promote mechanisation and digital farming, commercialise research, strengthen market linkages, and improve access to modern inputs.

Earlier, the government introduced the policy framework to pave the way for a new wave of mechanisation, value chain development, and digital connectivity, laying the foundation for a more resilient and sustainable agricultural sector.
