In a rather shocking move, former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Njabulo Blom will be playing his trade in Asia this season.
Blom, 25, transfers from Major Soccer League club St. Louis FC to Vietnamese reigning champions, Thep Xanh Nam Dinh.
He spent the past season on loan at Kaizer Chiefs as it became clear he was not in St. Louis’ plans, and African Times has established the MLS club was this time looking to free up a senior and international roster slot for their league campaign.
It is not immediately clear yet whether Blom has joined Nam Dinh on a loan or permanent move. However, his contract with St. Louis is due to expire on 31 December 2025, with a return to the USA out of the question.
Blom ended a frustrating spell at St. Louis, where things started off well, and eventually, he made 47 appearances, especially when playing under South African coach Bradley Carnell.
In August last year, Blom was suspended for one match by St. Louis FC for violating club rules.
He allegedly refused to join his team on the pitch while they were taking penalties in a loss to FC Juarez.
Blom soon returned to Chiefs on loan the following month, but Amakhosi didn’t take up the option to make the deal permanent after he featured 19 times.
Following his return to St. Louis, he’s moved on again, this time to Vietnam.
Nam Dinh will play in the Asian Champions League, and Blom is expected to play a key role.
“Njabulo Blom, born on 11/12/1999, is a South African citizen and plays as a midfielder. He was a familiar face of the American Professional Soccer League—MLS—when he used to play for St. Louis CITY SC. Njabulo Blom was also summoned up and played for the South African National Team,” announced Nam Dinh.
