Namibian striker Peter Shalulile has claimed his place as the Premier Soccer League goal-scoring king.

The 31-year-old Mamelodi Sundowns marksman rewrote the PSL history books on Saturday, 30 August, when he netted his 130th goal for a South African top-flight club in a league match against Stellenbosch at Athlone Stadium.

Sundowns won 1-0 on the day, and most importantly, Shalulile moved ahead of former Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates striker Siyabonga Nomvethe, who ended his career with 129 PSL goals.

Bradley Grobler, who’s now at Sekhukhune United, is also not far off with 121 goals.

Shalulile has been playing in the PSL for a decade since he made his move to South Africa in 2015 when he left Tura Magic FC for Highlands Park. He then joined Sundowns in 2020.

He’s won the Lesley Manyathela Golden Boot on three occasions: 2019/20, 2021/22, and 2022/23, which is the most in the history of the league.

Interestingly, Shalulile was on the verge of leaving Sundowns for Tunisian club Espérance recently when he was still a goal behind Nomvethe, but that move fell through, giving him the opportunity to surpass Nomvethe’s tally.

Shalulile holds a number of PSL records, including the fastest player to reach 100 PSL goals (in 197 appearances), most goals in a calendar year (33 in all competitions), and most cup competition goals in PSL history (37 goals).
