Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso looked on the bright despite the defeat.
“Losing 3-4 to Borussia Dortmund doesn’t make us happy as coaches, but we saw good things on the pitch today,” he said.
“Some will focus on the result, but we were competitive at the highest level of football in the world.”
Sundowns, who won their first match of the tournament 1-0 against Ulsan from South Korea, are still in with a chance to make it through to the Round of 16.
They’ll face Brazilian club Fluminense at the Hard Rock Stadium in Florida on Wednesday, 25 June.
