The Netball Association of Malawi has expressed delight that preparations are well underway as Malawi gets ready to host the 2025 Africa Netball Cup at the Griffin Saenda Sports Complex, Lilongwe, from 08 – 14 December 2025.

The tournament, held under the leadership of Africa Netball, will bring together some of the continent’s top national teams for a true celebration of Africa’s talent, passion and unity.

Nine nations, including Malawi, South Africa, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Tanzania, Botswana, Namibia and Eswatini, will compete for the continental crown. With stars like Joyce Mvula, Mary Cholhok and Shadine van der Merwe in action, fans can expect thrilling matches and unforgettable moments.

On the ground, Malawi is putting the final touches on the upgraded courts, training facilities and event logistics. The LOC, volunteers, communities and local partners are already showing incredible support – setting the stage for a warm and memorable hosting.

LOC Chairman, Limbani Matola, shared his excitement for what the tournament means to the country. “We are truly excited to host this event. It is a beautiful opportunity to showcase Malawi’s sporting talent and the warmth of our people,” he said. This tournament will give our fans a chance to enjoy top class netball right here at home and it will inspire young girls across Malawi to believe in themselves and take up the sport.”

He added a heartfelt call to partners and businesses: “We are also encouraging companies to come on board and support us so that together we can deliver a tournament that Malawi can be proud of.”

Significant backing has been secured: Premier Bet Malawi has committed MWK 10 million (R97 000) in sponsorship, a major boost to logistics, operations and overall delivery of the event, including Castel Malawi committing MK25m (R242 000) in sponsorship. Further, Sunbird Hotels and Resorts has come in as the Official Hospitality Partner of the Africa Netball Cup.

Since its inception in 2010, the Africa Netball Cup has grown into one of the continent’s most loved competitions, with Malawi, South Africa and Uganda consistently among the top performers.

The Netball Association of Malawi has reaffirmed its commitment to the growth of both women’s and men’s netball, emphasising the sport’s inclusivity and the importance of strengthening participation and visibility across all genders – an effort that aligns with Africa Netball’s ongoing campaign for netball’s inclusion in future Olympic Games, where showcasing gender inclusivity will be key to advancing this global ambition.

As the countdown continues, the Netball Association of Malawi invites Malawians and the wider netball family across the African continent to join in the build-up and celebrate this special moment for the sport and for the nation.
