Thohoyandou – Fourth-year Bachelor of Social Work student at the University of Venda and
Miss University of Venda’s 2024/5 pageant, Hasandi Ranzida (21), who earned the title of Second Princess and became part of the royal family, died on Tuesday.
The Ranzida family of Maniini, located outside the Thohoyandoon town, confirmed her death today and expressed how deeply saddened they are. The cause of death is not yet known.
Representing the family, the deceased’s brother, Hataluli Ranzida, said the pageant was not going well, but they don’t want to talk about that as they are devastated. “Please give us space to mourn,” he said.
The University of Venda Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Prof. Bernard Nthambeleni, described her as a bright and dedicated student, known for her passion for social work and research. She recently made her mark by presenting a research paper at the inaugural joint Bulawayo Polytechnic – UNIVEN 2025 International Research Conference in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, where she was recognised with awards for Best Overall Presenter and Exceptional Research Presentation Skills as an Upcoming Presenter,” he said.
“Beyond her academic achievements, Hasandi also shone in the Miss UNIVEN 2024/5 pageant, earning the title of Second Princess and becoming part of the royal family, showcasing her poise, confidence, and pride in representing her university,” said Nthambeleni.
“Hasandi balanced her studies, research, and extracurricular activities with discipline, positivity, and dedication. She inspired those around her with her resilience, commitment, and care for her peers and community.”
Prof Nthambeleni extends his heartfelt condolences to the Ranzida family, friends and everyone who knew her.
“Hasandi’s legacy of excellence, passion, and leadership will always be remembered,” Prof Nthambeleni said.
