Soweto club Kaizer Chiefs have finally commented on the future of their head coach, Nasreddine Nabi.
The two parties are on the brink of a separation, and Chiefs have confirmed they are in discussions over his future, with about 10 months remaining on their contract.
“Kaizer Chiefs confirms that Head Coach Nasreddine Nabi is currently not with the team as discussions between the club and the coach remain ongoing. The matter is internal in nature and is being addressed through the appropriate processes,” stated Amakhosi on Friday.
“The Club remains focused on ensuring stability and continuity for the players and supporters during this period. As this is an internal matter, no further details will be shared at this stage.
“We appreciate the continued support and understanding of our supporters and the broader football community. Any updates will be communicated through official club channels when appropriate.”
Chiefs and Nabi appear to be at loggerheads after a dramatic week involving the validity of his coaching badges, as per the Sowetan newspaper.
Nabi was reminded that his UEFA Pro License needed to be renewed for him to occupy the bench when Chiefs begin their CAF Confederation Cup campaign against Kabuscorp on Saturday.
But the coach’s licence apparently expired in 2023, which appears to be considered a breach of contract, with Nabi opting to rather terminate his contract, hence the ongoing discussions.
