French club AS Monaco have confirmed the arrival of Ansu Fati on loan from Spanish side, FC Barcelona.

The 22-year-old Spanish striker is on a season deal from FC Barcelona for the 2025/26 season, with the option to make the deal permanent for €11 million (R228 million).

Should Monaco keep him after the season, Barça, in turn, will be at liberty to insert a buyback clause for €28 million (R581 million).

Born in Bissau (Guinea-Bissau) on 31 October 2002, Ansu Fati grew up in Spain (Andalusia), where he moved at the age of six. He began playing football at CDF Herrera, before moving on to Sevilla FC, and then joining La Masia, FC Barcelona’s famed youth academy, in 2012.

He made his professional debut for Barça on 25 August 2019, aged just 16. A precocious talent, he quickly proved his worth in La Liga and the Champions League. On 10 December 2019, he scored the winning goal against Inter Milan (2-1) and became, at 17 years and 40 days, the youngest goalscorer in the competition’s history.

He’s slowed down ever since and even spent the 2023/24 season on loan at Brighton & Hove Albion. He made his Premier League debut there, making 27 appearances for the English club (4 goals, 1 assist).

Fati, however, has not lived up to his full potential yet and a lot would be expected from him at Monaco.

He teams up with midfielder Paul Pogba, who completed his move to Monaco over the weekend.
