Road Accidents Claim at Least 35 Lives in Mozambique
At least 35 people were killed this morning (18 August) in two separate road accidents in the districts of Manhiça and Chongoene, in the provinces of Maputo and Gaza respectively. Mozambique Carrier to Appeal Fine Over Anti-Competitive Practices
Mozambique’s flag carrier, Linhas Aéreas de Moçambique (LAM), announced on Tuesday that it will appeal against a fine imposed by the Competition Regulatory Authority (ARC) for alleged anti-competitive practices, arguing that the regulator failed to take its position into account. Mozambique’s Flag Carrier Fined Over $170,000 for Illegal Surcharge
The Competition Regulatory Authority (ARC) has fined Mozambique Airlines (LAM), the national flag carrier, 11,109,738.05 meticais (approximately $170,000) for unlawfully charging a fuel surcharge and for obstructing an official investigation. According to the ARC, LAM applied to domestic flights a surcharge originally created to offset fuel price fluctuations on international routes, even after the Government banned the practice in 2021. Two Million Mozambicans Facing Food Insecurity
At least two million Mozambicans are currently experiencing food insecurity, with 148,000 in need of “urgent humanitarian assistance”, the Government has announced.
