South African forward Mihlali Mayambela has moved clubs in the Cypriot Premier League, switching from Aris Limassol to Omonia Nicosia.
The 29-year-old Bafana Bafana winger has joined Omonia on a two-and-a-half year contract, ending a three-year and half stay at Aris.
“The collaboration contract has a duration of 2.5 years. The player has chosen to wear the number 18,” announced Omonia.
“For the past 3.5 years, he played for Aris Limassol, with whom he won a championship and a super cup, and participated in the UEFA Europa League group stage. Previously, he played for three years at SC Farense in Portugal and had a brief stint at Academica Coimbra in Portugal, while he also spent three years in the Swedish league playing for DjurgÃ¥rden, Degerfors, and Brage.”
Mayambela boasts 16 caps for South Africa’s senior national team, but he’s been on the fringes of the team over the months.
He made it to Bafana Bafana’s provisional squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), but missed the cut for the final team that went on to reach the last 16 in Morocco.
Mayambela would be hoping to make the FIFA 2026 World Cup squad.
