KwaZulu-Natal club Durban City are now at liberty to celebrate their promotion to South Africa’s top-flight, the Betway Premiership.

Durban City confirmed their automatic promotion on Sunday, 18 May, but were made to wait for their celebration after JDR Stars lodged a claim that Durban City had fielded an ineligible player, Saziso Magawana.

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) Disciplinary Committee sat on Tuesday and has thrown out the case because there’s no merit to it.

Earlier today, African Times reported on how the Durbanites were accused of flouting the league rules.

JDR Stars protested that Magawana was not properly registered after his move from then Motsepe Foundation Championship (MFC) club Marumo Gallants to Durban City last year.

According to JDR, Magawana should have received his clearance from Leruma United, who bought Gallants’ MFC status.

The PSL DC ruled Durban City had no case to answer, as their registration of Magawana was aboveboard.

Case closed.
