BRICS Network University Members Exchange Research Achievements and Expertise Through TV BRICS

TV BRICS and the University of Venda from South Africa have agreed to jointly implement information and educational projects, promote scientific research, and develop expert communities

The group of TV BRICS partners in science and higher education has been joined by a public university in the Republic of South Africa – the University of Venda (UNIVEN), a member of the BRICS Network University. On 15 October 2026, at the TV BRICS headquarters in Moscow, a cooperation agreement was signed by TV BRICS CEO and Editor-in-Chief Janna Tolstikova and Professor Fulufhelo Netswera, the Acting Vice Chancellor of the University of Venda, who also heads the BRICS Research Institute in South Africa.

The partners agreed to jointly implement information and educational projects, promote the results of scientific research and support the development of professional and expert communities. The work of UNIVEN and TV BRICS will be aimed at strengthening humanitarian ties with BRICS member states and partner countries.

“The University of Venda and TV BRICS’ partnership will strengthen the University of Venda’s vision of becoming a leading university in engaged scholarship. Its fourth strategic thrust of internationalisation and partnerships embeds UNIVEN within the global academic community. Importantly, the partnership between UNIVEN and TV BRICS will illuminate the University of Venda globally and in particular in the Global South,” Professor Fulufhelo Netswera, the Acting Vice Chancellor of the University of Venda, believes.

The University of Venda was established in 1982. It is located in Thohoyandou, Limpopo Province, South Africa. UNIVEN is a multidisciplinary university whose activities focus on teaching and learning, scientific research, innovation and engagement with society. More than 13,000 students currently study there. Since 2002, the university has been developing programmes focused on career advancement and academic and professional development. UNIVEN contributes to the development of Africa’s human capital and trains specialists in demand in local and international markets.

TV BRICS CEO Janna Tolstikova expressed her gratitude to the leadership and staff of the University of Venda for their initiative and commitment to partnership. By establishing direct cooperation with educational institutions and research centres in different countries, the international media network is creating a common information space that fully reflects the entire scientific and educational potential of BRICS. The strategic objective of TV BRICS in this area is to create conditions for members of the professional community to exchange experience, knowledge and ideas, which will contribute to global progress and the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Today, TV BRICS partners in science and higher education include more than 30 institutions from Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Iran, Ethiopia, Cuba and Nepal. In Africa, in addition to UNIVEN, the international media network cooperates with the University of Gondar (Ethiopia).

Among the members of the BRICS Network University working with the media network are the University of Campinas (Brazil), RUDN University, Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO University), HSE University, Saint Petersburg State University (Russia) and Fudan University (China).
