The case against two men accused of trying to kill Advocate Coreth Naude who was to preside over a SARS committee investigating the tax affairs of high-flying Durban businesswoman, Shauwn Mkhize and her son, Andile Mpisane has been postponed to December 30 this year.

The men, who cannot be named until they have pleaded, were nabbed in Cape Town after almost five months of investigation.

Naude survived an assassination attempt on 18 July this year outside a hotel in Umhlanga, Durban. She was in the city to preside over the inquiry probing Mkhize, her company Zikhulise and Royal AM, a soccer team chaired by Mpisane.

Aged 28 and 29, the suspects fled the scene using a silver Toyota Corolla, police said at the time.

The injured Naude received emergency treatment and was later rushed to hospital

When asked by African Times about the case, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in KwaZulu-Natal confirmed that the matter has been postponed for legal representation.

“The NPA KZN can confirm that the suspects appeared in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 23 December 2024. The matter was remanded until 30 December 2024 for legal representation,” the KwaZulu NPA said.

Speaking on 24-hour news channel eNCA, The KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, narrated how the unit investigating serious crimes cracked the case.

He said they relied on CCTV camera footage and their strong network of informers to track down the suspects.

Mkhwanazi also revealed that during the investigation they discovered that the plot was to wipe out the entire team tasked by SARS to look into the tax affairs of Mkhize and her son.
