Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has backed the club to come right in the near future.

Once a dominant force in South African football, Amakhosi last brought home silverware a decade ago when they annexed the 2014/15 league title. Since then, Chiefs’s battles have continued unabated.

However, they have a great chance to finally win a trophy, with the Nedbank Cup final against Orlando Pirates set for 0 May in Durban looming large.

First things first, though, Chiefs will have a perfect opportunity to see what they can do against their archrivals when they meet in a league match at FNB Stadium on Saturday, 3 May, before completing the back-to-back derbies, with the final, a week later.

Nabi remains confident that his charges can withstand the pressure over the next week, starting tomorrow.

“If Kaizer Chiefs win the derby (on 3 May), it’s not going to be a surprise; if Pirates win the derby, it’s also not going to be a surprise. Those are the two biggest clubs in South Africa,” said Nabi.

“Despite our current log standings, we believe that two big clubs are going to play on Saturday, even if we’re not in a good position, but we feel that whoever wins would have earned it.”

Pirates have claimed four straight wins against Chiefs, but Nabi is confident nonetheless. Even more important for him is to awaken the sleeping giant, the Phefeni Glamour Boys.

“We say that the big clubs get ill, but they never die, and we believe that we are the biggest club in South Africa.”
