A funeral is being held for slain media personality Warrick Stock, affectionately known as “DJ Warras”. DJ Warras was shot and killed in the Johannesburg CBD last week.
Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the assassination of DJ Warras, ActionSA confirmed, with the individuals scheduled to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday. The arrests follow a week of investigations into the brutal killing of the prominent Johannesburg figure, whose murder has drawn national attention.
DJ Warras was reportedly targeted for his outspoken stance against criminal activity in Johannesburg’s Central Business District, particularly the hijacking and illegal occupation of buildings. Local authorities said initial indications from ongoing investigations suggest that the suspects acted in response to his activism against organised criminal elements operating in the area.
ActionSA commended the South African Police Service for working “around the clock” to ensure the swift apprehension of the suspects. The political party said the arrests mark an important step in holding those responsible accountable and highlighted the need for continued law enforcement efforts to address criminality in the city.
In a statement, ActionSA Member of Parliament Dereleen James urged the criminal justice system to ensure that the suspects face the full extent of the law, noting that any individuals found guilty should remain in prison without the possibility of parole. The party emphasised the need for swift and decisive legal action to address the killing and any related criminal activity.
Background information indicates that building hijackings in Johannesburg have been a persistent issue, with numerous incidents reported in the CBD over the past several years. These illegal occupations often involve threats, intimidation, and in some cases, violence, with property owners and residents frequently affected. Authorities have said that efforts to curb these activities have included increased police visibility, targeted investigations, and collaboration with private security and municipal bodies.
DJ Warras, who had been vocal in condemning the hijacking and criminal networks in Johannesburg, became a high-profile target amid rising tensions between property owners, activists, and criminal groups. His assassination has reignited calls for stronger law enforcement measures to protect citizens and property in urban areas.
ActionSA said the party will continue to monitor the case closely and push for accountability. The MP said that ensuring justice in this matter is crucial not only for the victims’ families but also for restoring public confidence in the city’s ability to protect law-abiding residents and businesses.
Authorities have not yet released the identities of the arrested suspects, pending their court appearance and further investigation. Police have indicated that additional arrests or charges may follow as the investigation into the murder and related criminal networks continues.
The case has drawn attention to ongoing challenges in Johannesburg’s CBD, particularly around organised criminal activity and building hijackings, prompting both political and civil society actors to call for stronger enforcement and community protection measures.
