Bafana Bafana winger Elias Mokwana is set to depart Espérance, a year into his three-year contract with the Tunisian club.
African Times has established that Espérance has been looking to offload Mokwana or the Brazilian, Rodrigo Rodrigues Silva.
Club insiders firmly believe they can ease their wage bill by getting rid of either Mokwana or Rodrigues, arguing the two players are similar, and the club can afford to let one go.
Mokwana’s situation with Espérance appears to be going from bad to worse. He was recently fined an undisclosed amount for arriving back late for pre-season.
The 24-year-old is a subject of interest from Russian clubs Dinamo Makhachkala and Pari Nizhny Novgorod, as well as Damac and Al Hazem, both Saudi Arabian clubs, while Qatari side Al Ahli Doha (Qatar) has been tracking him.
Mokwana has declined to comment on his future, but it is believed he would welcome a move that may guarantee him regular game time considering Bafana Bafana will continue the FIFA 2026 World Cup Qualifiers next month before travelling to Morocco in December for the Africa Cup of Nations.
