Ethics in the Field of AI is on the Agenda of Russia’s BRICS Chairmanship

Russian President Vladimir Putin has instructed to include issues related to ethical standards in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) in the agenda of Russia’s BRICS chairmanship this year. Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin have been appointed responsible for the fulfilment of the instruction.

The task of the Russian Foreign Ministry and the Cabinet of Ministers is to ensure the inclusion of issues related to the formation of ethical standards in the field of artificial intelligence, balanced regulation and scientific and technical cooperation in the agenda of the BRICS association meetings in 2024. This is reported by the official website of the President of the Russian Federation.

According to the information from the list of instructions, the task must be completed by 1 March this year.

On 1 January 2024 Russia headed the BRICS association. Within the framework of its presidency in the group, the Russian Federation will hold more than 200 events of different orientation. In December 2023, during the direct line, combined with a press conference on the results of the year, Russian President Vladimir Putin noted that the country would devote its BRICS presidency to building a just world order.

In addition, Egypt, Iran, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Ethiopia and Egypt became full members of BRICS.
