Partnership to focus on climate action, industry and emerging technologies

Ethiopia and India are stepping up efforts to broaden bilateral cooperation across a range of strategic sectors, signalling a deepening partnership focused on sustainable development and innovation, reports ENA, a partner of TV BRICS.
According to Anil Kumar Rai, India’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, both countries are actively exploring new and emerging areas of collaboration while reinforcing existing ties. He highlighted a shared commitment to strengthening relations through expanded economic, technological and development cooperation.
The renewed momentum follows high-level agreements reached during the visit of Narendra Modi to Ethiopia in December, where leaders identified priority areas including environmental protection, climate change, industrial development and preparations for the COP32 climate conference.
India has expressed its readiness to support Ethiopia in hosting COP32 in 2027, with officials noting that the country’s selection reflects its growing role in advancing climate action through national initiatives and environmental policies.
Key sectors underpinning the partnership include manufacturing, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, and information and communication technologies, alongside capacity-building programmes aimed at enhancing skills and institutional development.
Both sides are also working to expand cooperation between public institutions, particularly in environmental management and urban development, as part of a broader effort to scale up joint initiatives.
Industrial collaboration remains an important pillar of the relationship, with ongoing projects focused on advancing production capabilities and introducing innovative technologies to support sectoral growth.
