Ethiopia’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mesganu Arega, highlighted ongoing efforts to expand and improve tourist destinations, citing new developments over the past six years as key initiatives to boost the industry. This is reported by ENA, a partner of TV BRICS.

He emphasised that ongoing development activities aimed at enhancing tourism infrastructure are creating a welcoming environment for visitors and fostering growth in the sector. Arega added that these new tourist destinations are instrumental in enhancing the country’s economic diplomacy.

The government has prioritised tourism development as a key component of its economic strategy.

“The ministry’s economic diplomacy focusses on tourism and trade, emphasising familiarisation trips, participation in international exhibitions, and collaboration with foreign tour operators to showcase Ethiopia’s attractions,” he said.

These initiatives involve partnerships with relevant stakeholders to strengthen the country’s tourism sector. Arega underlined that Ethiopia is endowed with immense natural and cultural heritage wealth, offering both tangible and intangible tourist attractions.

Furthermore, efforts are being strengthened to attract tourists from emerging markets in the Middle East and Far East.
