Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT) president Samuel Eto’o has thrown his weight behind Mamelodi Sundowns, Al Ahly, Espérance, and Wydad Casablanca ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup.

The former Barcelona, Inter Milan, and Chelsea forward believes the four teams will be competitive in the United States rather than add to the numbers.

“I know that the teams that will represent my continent will do their best to get as far as possible,” Eto’o told DSports.

“The level is quite equal; now soccer is crazy. They will do their best to get as far as possible,” said Eto’o, who’s also a CAF executive member.

The competition was first contested in 2000 as the FIFA Club World Championship and has been dominated by European teams, who have sixteen titles with Real Madrid winning a record five.

This year’s tournament kicks off from June 14 to July 13.

Meanwhile, Pyramids have sealed a spot in the 2029 FIFA Club World Cup, which will also feature 32 teams.

The Egyptian side booked their spot by virtue of winning the 2025 CAF Champions League.
