Former Barcelona star Lionel Messi is one of the prominent people to congratulate the club on their 28th Spanish La Liga title.

Barcelona secured the title on Thursday with a 2-0 victory over Espanyol.

Barcelona’s biggest rivals, Real Madrid, also acknowledged the Blaugrana on their achievement. “Congratulations to FC Barcelona on their 2024-2025 LaLiga title,” tweeted Los Blancos on X.

Real Madrid have won La Liga 36 times, leaving Barcelona with a lot of work to do if they are to catch up, but for now the latter will not be bothered as they celebrate.

Barcelona has amassed 85 points from 36 matches, while Real Madrid, placed second, has 78 from the same number of matches.

This title represents a first for manager Hansi Flick, who’s in his first season with the club.

“The dressing-room atmosphere… I’ve never experienced anything like it. Everyone looks out for one another, and that’s unique… Now, it’s time to celebrate,” commented the German.

“When I see people happy and smiling, I’m happy. Let everyone enjoy the parade. It’s my first one here. I only had one with the German national team, and I’m really looking forward to it.”
