Spanish mentor José Riveiro has resurfaced in Sweden after a brief stint on the unemployment queue.
Riveiro, who previously guided Orlando Pirates, has signed on a contract with AIK Stockholm until 31 December 2028.
He had been without a team for four months following his dismissal by Egyptian giants, Al Ahly.
Riveiro’s tenure with the North Africans was brief, lasting a mere three months, but he’s making a fresh start in Europe with AIK.
“AIK Football has agreed with José Riveiro on the role of new head coach of the club’s men’s team,” announced AIK Stockholm.
“The 48-year-old Spaniard most recently came from the Egyptian giants Al Ahly but also has previous coaching experience from Finland, Spain, and South Africa, among others. The agreement is valid until December 31, 2028.”
Riveiro is a popular figure in South African football, having won five trophies with the Buccaneers between 2022 and 2025.
