For Eastern Cape club Chippa United, the more things change, the more they stay the same.

The Chilli Boys have played just ten league games in the Betway Premiership, but they have confirmed their fourth coach of the season while parting ways with the Belgian, Luc Eymael.

Club boss Siviwe Mpengesi is known to be trigger-happy, with coaches coming and going all the time.

The 2025/26 season started with Sinethemba Badela at the helm, but he was dismissed after he oversaw only two games. Musa Nyatama took over albeit briefly and made way for Eymael, who has now left the club.

“Chippa United Football Club confirms that it has reached a mutual agreement to part ways with Head Coach Luc Eymael. The Club extends its sincere gratitude to Coach Eymael for his contribution and professionalism during his time with us, and we wish him the very best in his future endeavours,” announced the club on Tuesday.

“The Club is also pleased to announce the appointment of Vusumuzi Vilakazi as the new Head Coach of the team. Coach Vilakazi returns with a clear understanding of the club’s culture, values, and ambitions. His experience and commitment to our philosophy make him well-positioned to lead the team into the next chapter of our Betway Premiership League campaign.”

The club added, “We take this opportunity to thank our loyal supporters for their continued belief and encouragement during these difficult times. We promise we will bounce back and go back to being a strong and competitive Chilli Boys side.”

Chippa United would be hoping Vilakazi can live up to his first name, Vusumuzi (translated from IsiZulu as ‘one who revives a family’), considering they are at the bottom of the standings.

They will return to action on 1 November when they host seventh-placed AmaZulu at the Buffalo City Stadium in East London.
