A fresh bid has been launched to remove Bonginkosi Mngadi from the influential position of Chief Whip in the KwaZulu-Natal legislature.
The new bid is spearheaded by Sifiso Zama, the party’s regional chairperson for the Ugu (south coast) region.
Mngadi has been in the position for less than a year, having taken over from Meryn Dirkes, who also served a brief stint after succeeding Dr Kwazi Mbanjwa.
Zama has written to the provincial leadership, led by Willies Mchunu, calling for Mngadi’s removal. He alleges that Mngadi notched his deployment to the legislature through connections with Duduzile Zuma, daughter of MK Party President Jacob Zuma.
“B.C Mngadi is not serving any leadership purpose inside the KZN Legislature. He cannot lead MK officials when he himself needs to be led or groomed.
“Legislature is not a place to learn basic fundamentals which he lacks. Legislature is a hardened war room where Mngadi is too slow for impact,” Zama said in the letter dated 5 January 2026, which was seen by the African Times.
Zama then made the allegation that Mngadi was deployed by people close to Duduzile Zuma.
“BC Mngadi was never deployed by us as Ugu region (constituency) to serve as a KZN MPL, he got there through proximity to people who may be close to Duduzile Zuma. There was never any deployment committe nor deployment meeting we had as Ugu regional committee which he was nominated to represent Ugu in legislature or national parlimanet list,” Zama added in the letter.
In response, Mngadi dismissed Zama’s letter as pure sour grapes.
“This letter is as a result of power monger, functionalism, and functional influence resulted by individual leader which I led with him in the region and was deployed as an additional member of the Provincial detachment but was not deployed in the Provincial legislature.
“That leader had never been in peace and he had been fighting at all cost to ask various leadership as to how did I go to Parliament. Deployment is the prerogative of the leadership but not myself as an individual cde.
“A lot of propaganda has been written in that letter and that doesn’t worry me at all and I had never talked to cde Dudu with anything since I was the Regional Chairperson. I am deployed as a chief whip and I understand the organizational protocols on my deployment,” Mngadi said.
Zama confirmed that he wrote the letter to the leadership of the party seeking to have Mngadi recalled.
