Nine-time Premier League champions Manchester City have triggered the release clause for Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo.

City have agreed to meet Semenyo’s £65 million (R1.4 billion) release clause, which must be activated by 10 January.

The 26-year-old Ghanaian is due to have his medical after the Cherries’ game against Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday, as per BBC News.

Semenyo has scored nine goals and provided three assists for Bournemouth this season.

He’s expected to sign a long-term deal after the medical tests.

Manchester City was the only team to contact Bournemouth, despite interest from Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea, and Tottenham Hotspur.

Semenyo’s representatives were in Manchester on Monday discussing personal terms with City, while positive talks took place simultaneously between the clubs.

Born in England, he’s of Ghanaian descent.

Semenyo’s father, Larry, is a former footballer, having played as a midfielder for Okwawu United in the Ghana Premier League. Semenyo also holds French citizenship through his mother.
