The AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF), a non-profit organisation, has partnered with the Gauteng Department of Health Government to provide free HIV/Aids, blood pressure and TB screening at The Rand Show 2025.

Held from 17 to 21 April at the Johannesburg Expo Centre, the event’s Public Sector Hall in Hall 5 will offer free support and information to thousands of visitors — with a strong focus on healthcare, voter registration, social services, and more, said AFH’s Regional Advocacy and Policy Manager Ngaa Mutombedzi.

AHF, the world’s largest non-profit HIV/AIDS healthcare provider, says it will host a health activation offering free HIV, TB, STI, and blood pressure screenings to promote accessible public healthcare through education, early detection, and community engagement.

“Public health should meet people where they are,” said Murombedzi. “By bringing screenings and health education to a space like the Rand Show, we can reach families who might not otherwise have access to these services.”

Murimbedzi says the AHF space will also include safer sex education, interactive games, a Commitment Wall, health awareness documentaries, and activities supporting the Girls Act programme — which empowers adolescent girls and young women with education and health resources.

In addition to AHF’s presence, the Public Sector Hall will feature a wide range of government departments and agencies including SASSA, Rand Water, Johannesburg Water, the IEC, Road Accident Fund, and several financial ombuds services, he added.

Mutombedzi says these institutions will be offering real-time assistance and information to visitors at no cost

“This is a deeply important part of the Rand Show,” said Adele Hartdegen, CEO of The Rand Show. “It’s where government becomes truly accessible. Our visitors can speak directly to public service providers, and many walk away with real resolutions, answers, and opportunities.”

According to the AFH, the combined public-private approach highlights an ongoing effort to bridge service gaps in South Africa and improve community wellbeing. With health and social support offered in one place, the Public Sector Hall promises to be one of the most valuable spaces at this year’s event.
