The Hawks in Limpopo have arrested Global strake security former director and two former payroll administrators for allegedly creating 33 fraudulent invoices that amounted to R6.3 million on Wednesday, 19 May 2025.
According to the Hawks provincial spokesperson Lethunya Mmuroa, the trio of former employees of the security company based in Mokopane, allegedly submitted fraudulent invoices and claimed funds from the Anglo-American Platinum mine for security services that were not rendered.
The fraudulent activity is said to have happened between 20 December 2018 and September 2021.
“Three accused, Monique Nel, 52 (payroll administrator), Ms Wanda van Zyl, 57 (Director), and Mr Ruan van Zyl, 23 ( payroll administrator) prepared fraudulent invoices and submitted them to the Anglo-American Platinum to claim for services rendered by the security guards attached to the Global Strake Security Company.
“The Anglo-American Platinum got suspicious and conducted internal forensic investigations. The investigation revealed that over 33 fraudulent claims were submitted to the company and payments were already processed,” said Mmuroa.
As a result, the platinum mining company suffered a loss of over R6.3 million.

The company opened a case of fraud with the Mahwelereng police station, which was later transferred to Polokwane-based Hawks Serious Commercial Crime Investigation for further probing.
The Hawks’ investigations managed to link four personnel attached to Global Strake Security Company to the committed crime.
Following the investigations, three suspects were arrested on 26 counts of fraud.
“After the investigations, the case was handed to the office of the National Prosecuting Authority(NPA) for decision. Subsequent to that, the warrants to arrest the suspect were authorized.
“The suspects were contacted and handed themselves to the Hawks. They briefly appeared in the Mahwelereng Magistrate’s Court facing 26 counts of fraud on 19 May 2025. The matter was postponed to 20 May 2025 for bail application, “ the Limpopo Hawks spokesperson said.
