Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos now appears to be having second thoughts about his plan to retire from the game.
Broos, 73, previously said he would quit the game after this year’s FIFA World Cup to spend more time with his family.
“Maybe it was not a good idea for me to say that after the World Cup I should stop my career as a coach,” says Broos, who’s in his fifth year with Bafana Bafana. He joined on a five-year contract in May 2021.
“At that moment, you can say things, but when the time comes, you have to decide. So, let’s wait and see what will happen in three to four months.
“For me, if I should stop, I will stop in beauty. It has to be a beautiful end. That means we have to perform well in the World Cup,” he continues.
Bafana Bafana will be in action on Friday evening in a friendly against Panama at Moses Mabhida Stadium, which is in preparation for the global showpiece.
Broos adds, “I will work as hard as I have worked already in the past five years to have a team at the World Cup that gets good results. There is still a lot of work to do, and I don’t have the time to think about whether I will go or stay.”
Meanwhile, former Bafana Bafana coach Pitso Mosimane has already expressed interest in taking over as the new national team mentor, post the World Cup.
