Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos says he has a very good idea which players will make the team for the FIFA World Cup.

Broos was speaking in Cape Town ahead of Tuesday’s friendly against Panama at the DHL Stadium.

“I think first of all, let’s say 70 percent of the selection is already in my head and will be there in May,” said the Belgian.

“Everything depends also a little bit on shape of play, maybe in the next weeks they will not play anymore in their teams or injuries or that kind of things, but 70 to 75 percent is already in my head. I will not change, not even if we play a bad game (against Panama),” he insisted.

“But there are still some positions I want to see in the next weeks before I make my choice. On the other side, we had a good game on Friday (1-1 draw against Panama in Durban) and let’s hope we can do that again. There is still some work to do because we are going to the World Cup. We have to work on some details to get better and be more ready than what we are now.”

As per FIFA regulations for the 2026 World Cup, provisional squads of 35-55 players must be submitted by 11 May.

The official 26-man squads are due by 30 May, and they will be announced by FIFA on Monday, 1 June.
