Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos says the team is now certainly on the back foot in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers after a goalless draw against Zimbabwe in Durban.

Broos’s men dominated for the better part of the match at Moses Mabhida Stadium, but Zimbabwe, the home team, held firm.

The result means Bafana Bafana remain second in Group C with 15 points from nine matches, two points behind the leaders, Benin, with one match remaining.

“I think we tried everything today, and we didn’t have the luck. We had a ball cleared off the line, and one came off the post. You need a bit of luck in such games, and we didn’t have it on our side today. We fought for it, we did everything, and we tried everything, but okay,” reflected Broos.

“It’s very hard to accept, certainly. It’s not a loss, but it will be very difficult now.”

Bafana Bafana will host Rwanda at Mbombela Stadium on Tuesday, 14 October, in a must-win clash, while Benin will be away to Nigeria, who are now third on the log with 14 points after beating Lesotho 2-0 in Polokwane.

Broos and the boys would be playing for a win against Rwanda while hoping Nigeria beat Benin.
