India and the United Arab Emirates have advanced their bilateral scientific cooperation by launching a joint research initiative in Antarctica. Researchers from the UAE have joined India’s 45th Antarctic Expedition at the Maitri research station, marking a new stage in collaboration in polar and Earth system sciences. This is reported by ANI, a partner of TV BRICS.
The joint team is conducting studies in Antarctica’s extreme natural environment, including landscapes comparable to conditions on Mars. The research is intended to support advances in polar science, climate studies and planetary research, with a focus on understanding how extreme environments evolve under harsh climatic conditions.
The participation of Emirati scientists follows a formal agreement between the two countries aimed at strengthening cooperation in polar and ocean research. The memorandum of understanding provides a framework for joint scientific missions in both Antarctica and the Arctic, expanded data exchange, and collaborative research on climate change, polar ecosystems, and Earth system processes.
Officials have described the Antarctic mission as a practical outcome of the growing strategic partnership between India and the UAE in science and technology. By working together in one of the world’s most challenging research environments, the two countries seek to contribute to global efforts to better understand climate dynamics and their implications for the planet.
The initiative also reflects the UAE’s broader efforts to engage in international polar research while reinforcing India’s long-standing role in Antarctic science. Researchers from both sides are expected to share findings with the global scientific community, supporting international cooperation in addressing climate and environmental challenges.
