For the first time since 2004, there will be no teams from Spain, England, or Germany in the final of the UEFA Champions League.

Italian side Inter Milan will take on French outfit Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) on Saturday, 31 May, at the Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany.

In 2004, Portuguese side Porto, with South Africa’s Benni McCarthy in their corner, won the competition against French team Monaco. Porto was guided by astute coach José Mourinho.

This was the last time there was no team from Spain, England, or Germany in the decider until this year’s final.

On Wednesday night, PSG beat Arsenal 2-1 in their second-leg tie at the Parc des Princes to record a 3-1 win on aggregate and progress to the final.

Inter, on the other hand, edged FC Barcelona 7-6 on aggregate to book their spot.

It’s the seventh time the Nerazzurri—Inter’s nickname—are in the final, having previously won three and lost three finals. The last time they lifted the trophy was in 2010 under the guidance of Mourinho, while they went down to Manchester City in 2023 when they last reached the final.

PSG is looking for its first UCL title after coming close in 2020 but lost to Bayern Munich in Lisbon.
