Iran’s exports to African countries recorded a 66 per cent year-on-year increase during the first nine months of the current Iranian calendar year, highlighting a sharp acceleration in trade ties with the continent, according to official data published by Tehran Times, a partner of TV BRICS.

Between late March and late December 2025, Iran’s total trade turnover with 39 African states reached approximately US$940 million, reflecting intensified economic engagement and the impact of coordinated government initiatives.

Officials attributed the growth to the implementation of decisions adopted under a dedicated Africa-focused trade framework, including preparations for the next Iran–Africa economic cooperation forum. These measures are intended to strengthen institutional links, streamline trade mechanisms and improve market access for Iranian goods and services.

Economic policymakers have stressed the need for a clear, long-term trade and investment strategy for Africa, viewing the continent as a key future growth market. With a population exceeding 1.4 billion, Africa offers significant demand potential across consumer goods, technical services, and infrastructure-related cooperation.

Experts have noted that successful engagement with African markets requires sustainable supply chains, consistent export capacity and improved financial and logistical support. They have also highlighted the importance of learning from international trade models that combine infrastructure development, investment and private-sector participation.

Support mechanisms for overseas investment and export expansion are expected to play a central role in maintaining momentum, alongside development financing for innovation-led and entrepreneurial projects linked to foreign trade.
