Former Orlando Pirates coach José Riveiro is on the verge of joining Egyptian powerhouse Al Ahly.
The Spaniard is expected in Cairo in the next 24 hours to conclude talks on a two-year deal.
Riveiro bid farewell to the Buccaneers on Tuesday, when they beat Golden Arrows 3-0 at the Orlando Stadium.
Riveiro was asked for a comment on his next club but refused to confirm the destination.
“I wish, but I can’t. There are things of confidentiality and stuff like that; it’s not me who has the responsibility to announce,” he explained to SuperSport TV.
“But it’s going to be very soon. I think that everybody will understand and hopefully be happy for me and wish me all the best.”
Riveiro’s first big assignment with Africa’s Club of the 20th Century, as voted for by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), will be the FIFA Club World Cup next month in the United States (US).
He’ll be looking forward to replicating his success at Pirates with Al Ahly.
Riveiro won five trophies in his time at Orlando Pirates, the most titles by a coach at the club since Tony Sanderson also won five from 1973 to 1974, as per the statisticians at Opta Jabu.
