Kaizer Chiefs are on the verge of landing a major attacking reinforcement, with Bafana Bafana winger Elias Mokwana expected to be unveiled as an Amakhosi player this week as the Soweto giants look to inject fresh firepower into their forward line.
The Naturena outfit have reportedly struck an agreement on personal terms with the highly-rated 27-year-old attacker, who is expected to undergo a medical examination before putting the finishing touches to his anticipated move on a free transfer.
Mokwana has been a free agent since September 2026, when he parted ways with Tunisian powerhouse Espérance Sportive de Tunis by mutual consent, despite having a contract that was originally scheduled to run until June 2027.
Chiefs have now reignited their pursuit of the talented winger, having previously expressed interest in securing his signature before he opted for a move to North Africa in August 2024.
The former Sekhukhune United sensation arrives with valuable international and overseas experience, having tested his credentials in Tunisia and Saudi Arabia.
During his stint with Espérance, Mokwana made a strong impression, registering seven goals and four assists in 38 appearances across all competitions. He also played his part in the club’s domestic trophy-winning campaign.
His journey subsequently took him to Saudi Arabia, where he spent the 2025/26 season on loan at Al-Hazem. He featured in 26 matches, finding the back of the net once and providing three assists.
However, it was his exploits in South Africa that first brought him into the spotlight. At Sekhukhune United, Mokwana established himself as an exciting attacking threat, making 51 appearances, scoring five goals and supplying five assists across competitions.
His blistering pace, direct running and willingness to take on defenders helped propel him into the national conversation, eventually earning him a place in the Bafana Bafana setup.
On the international stage, Mokwana has collected 11 caps and scored twice for South Africa. He was also part of the national squad that clinched bronze at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
For Chiefs, his anticipated arrival could be a significant addition to an attacking department that has struggled for consistency. His ability to operate on either flank, stretch opposition defences, create opportunities and bring defenders under pressure offers coach Nasreddine Nabi additional tactical ammunition.
Amakhosi supporters will be hoping that the winger’s arrival can inject urgency, creativity and a much-needed cutting edge into their attack as the club continues its pursuit of a return to the summit of South African football.
