In admitting defeat, Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Cedric Kaze offered no excuses for losing 3-0 to bitter rivals Orlando Pirates at FNB Stadium on Saturday.

Instead, the Burundian was quick to apologise to the Amakhosi faithful, as they were brushed aside by the Buccaneers in a league encounter that enjoyed a full house, with official confirmation that 87,436 fans attended.

The official attendance is disputed, with fans claiming there could have been well over 100 thousand people in the stadium due to ticketing issues that have been a thorn in the flesh of stadium management, who have been dealing with fake tickets sold on the black market.

Be that as it may, the focus, as of Sunday, remains the result, and Kaze is gutted.

“On my behalf and on behalf of the players, I want to apologise to the fans because they deserved better today. We were not up to the task,” he said in the post-match presser.

The future of the coaches, Kaze and his partner Khalil Ben Youssef, could be in doubt, as Chiefs suffered their fourth defeat in five games.

“I will not answer that because it’s not up to me, but I believe that coaches are here because they are trusted by management,” reacted Kaze when asked about the future of the current technical team.

“It’s true that we have been in a series of bad results, but I believe there are things that have worked in the past few months, and we need to remind ourselves what has worked for us before.”

Kaze added, “We need to go back to the basics of football, how we defend well and not concede, because that is the only way we can go forward again.”

The Phefeni Glamour Boys remain fourth on the league standings and eleven points behind their sworn enemies, Pirates, who were topping the log at the time of writing.

Pirates have 12 matches remaining, while Chiefs have 13.
