Kaizer Chiefs have officially unveiled their Women’s team at an official launch in Daveyton, Gauteng.
The team will participate in the Sasol League, which is the second tier of Women’s football in South Africa.
“This marking an important moment for the Club and for women’s football in South Africa,” stated the club.
Kaizer Chiefs Ladies will play their home games at the club’s Village in Naturena and KwaThema Stadium, which is situated in Springs, Ekurhuleni.
“The establishment of the Kaizer Chiefs Ladies team represents a clear commitment from the Club to invest in the women’s game, to create meaningful opportunities for players, and to contribute to the continued growth of football in the country. This follows a deliberate and structured journey built over several years, in collaboration with key partners in the women’s football space,” reads Amakhosi’s statement.
“Kaizer Chiefs express their sincere appreciation to Gauteng-based club, Springs Home Sweepers for their role in shaping this project and for the years of work invested in developing women’s football. The Club extends their gratitude to Joseph Mkhonza, the former Kaizer Chiefs player and respected coach, for his longstanding contribution to the growth of the women’s game in South Africa. Their influence and commitment have played an important part in laying the foundation on which this team now stands.
“Kaizer Chiefs further acknowledge the role of the South African Football Association (SAFA) in supporting and welcoming the Club into the women’s football structures. The Club values its relationship with SAFA, including its involvement in the Gauteng Development League, and appreciates the continued collaboration in strengthening football pathways in the country.
Brima Logistics is the official partner of Kaizer Chiefs Ladies. Their support contributes to the stability and sustainability of the programme and reflects growing confidence in the women’s game.
“The journey into women’s football began through a strategic partnership with Springs Home Sweepers, where initial discussions in 2023 evolved into a formal partnership in 2025. This allowed Kaizer Chiefs to build knowledge and capacity within the women’s football landscape. The process has now culminated in the Club acquiring their Gauteng Sasol League status for the 2026 season, marking their official entry into competitive women’s football.”
Chiefs Chairman, Dr Kaizer Motaung, said the launch reflects the Club’s responsibility to the game and its future.
“This is a proud moment for Kaizer Chiefs. As a Club, we understand the responsibility we carry within South African football, and this step reflects our commitment to growing the game in a meaningful way. Women’s football is an important part of the future, and we are committed to being part of that journey,” he said, adding, “When you build something of this nature, you must think beyond the present moment. You must consider the generations that will follow and the responsibility that comes with that. Kaizer Chiefs Ladies is part of a broader vision to ensure that the game continues to elevate, to include more people, and to stand stronger in the years ahead.”
The Kaizer Chiefs Ladies squad consists of 24 players, combining experience and emerging talent.
The group includes former Banyana Banyana midfielder Mamello Makhabane, along with junior internationals Zanele Kunyamane and Katlego Mohale. The squad also features players with experience in the Hollywoodbets Super League, adding depth and competitiveness to the team.
