Limpopo Doctor investigated for allegedly Raping a Pregnant Patient

The Police in Limpopo have launched an investigation after a medical doctor attached to George Masebe Hospital under Waterberg district in allegedly raped a 22-year-old pregnant patient during medical examinations.

According to the reports, the doctor indecently assaulted the patient in the sonar room during an abdominal ultrasound, which was required as part of the woman’s ongoing observation related to her pregnancy, in the early hours of Sunday, 27 April 2025.

The Limpopo Police Spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba has confirmed that a case of rape has been opened with the Tinmyne Police.

However the suspect is yet to be arrested, pending the investigations.

“The Acting Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Major General Samuel Manala, has ordered a full and thorough investigation following an allegation that a 22-year-old pregnant patient was allegedly raped by a doctor during a medical examination at George Masebe Hospital in Tinmyne policing precinct outside Mokopane, Waterberg District on Sunday morning, 27 April 2025.

“According to preliminary information, the victim was being examined when the doctor allegedly sexually assaulted her. The traumatised patient immediately reported the incident to other healthcare staff, who in turn alerted the police, “ Colonel Ledwaba said.

Limpopo MEC of Health Dieketseng Mashego said they have initiated their own internal investigation into the incident. She assured that the department is taking these allegations seriously.

“The department pledges to cooperate fully with law enforcement agencies, as this matter has been reported to the police for further investigation.

“In addition to supporting the police inquiry, we have initiated our own internal investigation to thoroughly examine the circumstances surrounding this incident,” said Mashego.

The acting provincial commissioner of Police, Major General Manala, said he’s disturbed by the incident and the case will be treated with urgency.

“Crimes of this nature are extremely serious and particularly disturbing when committed by individuals entrusted with the care of vulnerable members of our community.

“We are treating this case with the urgency and sensitivity it deserves, and we urge anyone who may have additional information to come forward,” he said.
