Limpopo Rapist Gets 30 Years’ Imprisonment

Polokwane – A 28-year-old man, Freddy Moraka Modibedi of Seshego outside the Polokwane town was sentenced to 30 years imprisonment by the Polokwane High Court Wednesday August 27, 2025 for raping three teenage girls at Mmotong Ga-Mabotja, Mpone, Boratapelo Ga-Matlala and Seshego in September 2022.

The court heard that the accused Freddy Moraka Modibedi (28), raped three teenage girls aged between 15 and 17, in separate incidents between 03 and 17 September 2022 at Mmotong Ga-Mabotja, Mpone, and Boratapelo.

The accused would meet unknown young girls to him and threatened them with a knife, robbed them of their belongings, and thereafter rape them.

The three incidents were reported to the police at Seshego and Matlala. The dockets were transferred to the Seshego Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offenses Unit. Sergeant Nation Teffo was tasked to further investigate the cases.

Following an outstanding investigation, the suspect was arrested after being on the run for almost a year. He was positively linked with the cases through DNA. He appeared at the Seshego and Matlala Magistrate Courts and was remanded in custody several times. The cases were later transferred to the Polokwane High Court, wherein he was convicted and sentenced to 30 years imprisonment.

  • In Count 1: Kidnapping – he was sentenced to 6 years’ imprisonment.
  • In Count 2, of rape, he was sentenced to 30 years’ imprisonment.
  • In Count 3 of robbery – he was sentenced to 13 years’ imprisonment.
  • In Count 4: Kidnapping –he was sentenced to a 6 year imprisonment.
  • In Count 5: Rape – he was sentenced to 30 years’ imprisonment.
  • In Count 7: Kidnapping –he was sentenced to a 6 year imprisonment.
  • In Count 8: Rape – he was sentenced to 30 years’ imprisonment.

The court ordered that the sentences count 1, 3, 4, 5, 7, and 8 shall run concurrently with the sentence of thirty years’ imprisonment in count two.

The accused was therefore sentenced to an effective sentence of 30 years’ imprisonment.

It was further ordered that five years of the thirty years imprisonment shall be suspended for a period of five years, on condition that he is not convicted of any offence in contravention of the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences and Related Matters) Amendment Act 32 of 2007 committed during the period of suspension.

The Provincial Commissioner of the Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe welcomed the hefty sentences imposed against the accused. “We appreciate efforts by the investigating officer and everyone involved in cases until justice was served to the victims and their families,” said Lieutenant General Hadebe.
