The 2024/25 Betway Premiership season has appeared to be a walk in the park for Mamelodi Sundowns, but head coach Miguel Cardoso says there’s a lot of work being done behind the scenes.
The Tshwane team was confirmed champions for the eighth consecutive time on Wednesday following a 3-0 victory over Chippa United in East London.
Sundowns have reached 70 points in 27 matches, and second-placed Orlando Pirates have 55 from 24 outings.
“It was challenging but very beautiful. I said to the players, It will be very hard, but it will be very beautiful,” reflects Cardoso, who’s the first Portuguese coach to win a PSL league title.
“We needed to believe in the work everyday. When you work with a group of players of these characters, it’s not easy. Obviously, we knew that there was a new proposal, new ideas, and a lot, but we believed a lot in ourselves.”
Cardoso took over from Manqoba Mngqithi towards the end of last year and hit the ground running.
In 20 games, he won a staggering 17, suffered only two defeats, and drew one.
Sundowns will conclude their league programme with a match against Magesi at Loftus Stadium on Sunday.
