Mamelodi Sundowns are Premier Soccer League (PSL) champions for the eighth consecutive time.
The Brazilians were confirmed as winners of the 2024/25 Betway Premiership on Wednesday evening after beating Chippa United 3-0 at the Buffalo City Stadium in East London, Eastern Cape.
In the PSL era, since the 1996/97 season, Sundowns have won the league a record 15 times, followed only by Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs, who both boast four titles each.
Miguel Cardoso’s men were full value for their title, just as in previous seasons.
They have been unplayable, winning 23 matches out of 27 games and losing just three to Polokwane City, TS Galaxy, and Pirates, which were all away.
In their own backyard, they have won all matches.
Sundowns have scored 63 goals, which is a record in a single season, and have conceded just 13. The league’s top scorers are Iqraam Rayners and Lucas Ribeiro Costa, who have each netted 14 times.
From all of us at African Times, congratulations Masandawana.
