Mayor Condemns Violent Murder of 20-Year-Old Boy in Malamulele

Collins Chabane Local Municipality Mayor, Shadrack Maluleke, has strongly condemned the horrific rape of a 17-year-old girl and the brutal killing of a 20-year-old boy during a violent house robbery in Malamulele B2 on Monday morning.

On Wednesday, 7 May 2025, Malamulele residents took to the streets in protest, bringing the town to a standstill as they demanded the swift arrest of the suspects responsible for this heinous crime.

The mayor described the incident, where suspects allegedly tied up the father, raped his 17-year-old daughter, and fatally shot his son, as one of the worst crimes ever witnessed in the area.

Maluleke extended heartfelt condolences to the Khosa family and expressed deep sorrow on behalf of the municipality. He emphasised that such barbaric acts of violence must not be tolerated and called on the Malamulele Police and SAPS to leave no stone unturned in swiftly bringing the perpetrators to justice.

“I urge the community to unite in support of the affected family, remain vigilant, and assist law enforcement with any information. I have announced plans for an urgent meeting with SAPS and community stakeholders to discuss lasting safety measures and foster collaborative action against crime. Let us come together, speak out, and act collectively to protect our homes and families. Justice must be served, and community safety must be prioritized,” said Maluleke in a statement.

According to the victim Mandla Khosa’s detailed statement submitted to the Malamulele police on house robbery, murder and rape charges, he was sleeping inside his bedroom when he heard the door being forced open.

“He opened his eyes and noticed that there were two unknown African males covering their faces with balaclavas. One of them pointed at him with a firearm and demanded money and cellphones. He gave them his Samsung cellphone and told them he does not have money. They tied him up and went to the other rooms where his children were sleeping. He remained in his bedroom and after a while he heard three gunshots. He managed to untie himself and went to the other rooms and the suspects had already left. He noticed that his son Xilaveko Khosa 20 years was shot once in the head and was lying in the floor bleeding heavily. He also discovered that his daughter Kuhlula Khosa, 17 years, was raped by one of the suspects. He then rushed to the neighbors for assistance. An ambulance was called to the scene and took both his children (victims) to Malamulele hospital. On arrival at the hospital, Xilaveko Khosa was declared dead,” the statement said.

Khosa also indicated that the stolen items including a Samsung cellphone, HP laptop, Bosch chainsaw, 45 cm Hisense TV, bicycle and a grinder to the total value of R36 300.00.

The Police are still searching for two suspects who remain at large.
